Ufuk Ali Gueray

Ufuk Ali Gueray (he, they) is an artist of Turkish background. He was born in Herrenberg, Germany, and has lived in Germany, Canada and Scotland. They hold a BFA in Studio Art and French Studies from Concordia University, and an MFA in Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art. From 2013 to 2018, he taught painting, drawing, and printmaking at the University of Manitoba School of Art. In 2014, they received an Honourable Mention in the RBC Canadian Painting Competition. In 2017, he participated in the Manitoba Arts Council's Deep Bay Artists' Residency in Riding Mountain National Park. In 2018, they received the Manitoba Arts Council's prestigious Major Arts Grant as well as the Brooklyn Visual Arts Residency, and spent the spring of the same year as artist-in-residence at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York. In 2023, he was selected to participate in the Centre for Art Tapes Media Arts Scholarship program in Halifax.

Their work has been featured in exhibitions in Canada, Germany, Greece, the USA and the UK, as well as in national and international publications including Border Crossings and the Winnipeg Free Press. He has received grants from the Ontario Arts Council, the Winnipeg Arts Council, the Manitoba Arts Council, Arts Nova Scotia, the Canada Council for the Arts, and gratefully acknowledges support from these funding bodies. They currently live and work in Kjipuktuk/Halifax.
